Governing Council

The Governing Council (GC) is the governing and policy-making body of MMCS. The GC upholds the mission and vision of MMCS and thus adopts policies that support the fulfillment of the charter.

The GC is responsible for:

ensuring the sound fiscal management and academic integrity of the school
ensuring that the school is in compliance with local and federal laws that govern charter schools
hiring and firing the school Director
evaluating the Director and operations of the school

The GC also:

takes a leadership role in developing the school’s goals and strategic plan
guides the Director through approved policy or through directives approved at GC meetings
approves the annual budget and budget adjustment requests
reviews and approves monthly financial and annual audit reports
forms committees as pertinent to carrying out its responsibilities
promotes a collaborative approach to governance and leadership of the school and encourages staff and community representation on relevant committees

The GC is not responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school.

Parent, staff, and community input is welcome, and all GC meetings are open to the public. At the designated time, members of the public are invited to submit written or verbal public comment. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month beginning at 5:30pm, unless otherwise posted. The posted meeting agenda includes a link to enable the public to access the live audit and video webcast of the meeting.

Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, recordings of each meeting and a copy of any minutes approved at the meeting are posted on the Mountain Mahogany Community School website and will be publicly available for at least three years following the date of the meeting. Recordings of Governing Council meetings can also be found on the Mountain Mahogany YouTube Channel.

There may be occasions such as community events, school functions or board trainings where a quorum of the board is present. No business will be discussed during these occasions.
