Mountain Mahogany Community School, a tuition-free K-4 public charter, where deeply nurtured children become natural learners for life.


MMCS provides a mind, body, art integrated curriculum that fosters the emotional, intellectual, and social capacities of children. Our rhythm of the day includes story-telling, movement, music, art, gardening, and knitting, integrated with core academic skills. Active family involvement, as a key component of the MMCS charter, results in the children’s deep sense of belonging to community and general well-being.

Mountain Mahogany Community School is a free public school, and admission is by open lottery. MMCS is striving to be a learning community that is rich in racial, cultural, ethnic, class, lifestyle and learning diversity. To this end, we invite all to join our “thinking out of the box” school. Our Parent Orientation classes are designed to bring more clarity to prospective families about our mission and goals.


Mountain Mahogany opened in August 2005.
It is located on 3.2 acres, at 5014 4th St. NW, between Griegos and Montano.
